Nellie Belle (Bates) Brassfield/Evers

This photo is simply captioned "Grandma" in Elvis John Brassfield's photo album. It is grouped with pictures of the tombstone of Nellie Belle Evers. Based on that and the fact that Elvis's Grandma Hunt died in 1914, prior to his birth, I have to assume this photo is Nellie Belle (Bates) Evers.

Nellie Belle Bates was born November 1, 1873 in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa to Gipson Bates and Elizabeth. I have no information on Elizabeth's maiden name at this time. Nellie married Elvis H. Brassfield (1870-1904) around 1894. Elvis H. Brassfield died around age 34 on March 6, 1904. They were the parents of Clarence, Floyd and Adrian Brassfield. Floyd Gipson Brassfield was the father of Elvis John Brassfield and I have mentioned them both before.

Nellie Belle married Ben F. Evers around 1915 and they lived in Cherokee, Iowa. Nellie died October 27, 1940 and was buried in Graceland Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa.
